Some word about the Sadabrata Ghat
In the early 16th century, the great saint Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu traversed this exact river route by boat on his way to Puri, halting nearby at the village of Atisara. Even earlier, the 1495 Bengali epic Manasavijaya by Bipradas Pipilai describes the merchant Chand Sadagar sailing past Baruipur via this channel to reach the open sea at Chhatrabhog.
The word "Sadabrata" translates to the continuous, charitable distribution of alms, food, or shelter. Historically, prominent ghats along major pilgrimage and trade routes featured an atithishala funded by local wealthy families or zamindars. Sadabrata Ghat served exactly this purpose a safe haven and charitable resting place for weary merchants, wandering ascetics, and river travelers.
